UX DESIGNER LEADING DESIGN SPRINT
MY ROLE
As the lead UX Designer I completed a modified version of the Google Ventures Design Sprint that included:
-
Day 1: Understand/Map the Problem
-
Day 2: Sketch the Solution
-
Day 3: Decide via a Storyboard
-
Day 4: Build a Prototype
-
Day 5: Validate Designs
PROBLEM
Savr Recipes has an active community of users who rate and review recipes for other users.
Recently, there have been negative reviews about recipes that involve many steps or more advanced techniques. Users who get excited about a specific recipe end up disappointed with the outcome because they don't feel like the instructions are clear or easy to execute.
SOLUTION
I designed a product that gives users:
-
The ability to digest instructions at their own pace and skill level.
-
Support to accurately and easily follow the cooking instructions via a progress monitoring tracker.
-
The ability to customize their recipe to include and modify instructions.
LESSONS LEARNED
This was a very successful design sprint because I was able to see that users saw value in the new chunked progress monitoring tool. I was really happy to hear that users felt like this solution tackled some of the personal issues they had experienced with traditional cooking books. If I had more time and resources to continue, I would explore how to make the progress tracker more automatized so that users focus on the actual recipe and not so much on clicking buttons to show their progress toward completion. I can confidently say that my first design sprint was such an informative and rewarding experience.
